Stephen Wellum Limited Atonement Faculty Address

Joshua —  April 2, 2012 — 4 Comments

Last month, Dr. Stephen Wellum of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary gave an address to faculty and students on the doctrine of limited atonement (particular redemption) and how “a consistent Baptist ecclesiology is best defended by the embrace of a definite view of the atonement.”

Wellum does a superb job defending the doctrine in light of Christ as High Priest and why Baptist ecclesiology and its regenerate church membership should lead to an affirmation of particular redemption.

If you are on the fence about the doctrine, or outright hate it, you should definitely listen to the lecture. You can stream or download the .mp3 here.

looks like SBTS pulled a copyright claim on it

Sadly, I believe so. There appears to be a decreasing theological freedom in the SBC when it comes to the promotion of historic Baptist doctrine.

Disappointed to see it removed from the web again, but it can still be found at various other places.

We cannot fear men. I believe the persistant scrubbing of this scholarly address by a distinguished faculty member of SBTS is rooted in a fear of men.
