I recently leaked an audio recording and documentation of an encounter I had with Vice President/Associate Dean Argile Smith to an anonymously run website. I want to clarify why I did this and answer a few questions.

Why I Recorded the Encounter

Keep in mind, this all took place just weeks after President Joe Aguillard wrote his “President’s Pen” article condemning Calvinism and saying it will not be allowed at Louisiana College. Not only this, Aguillard had recently given contractual non-renewals to two Christian Studies profs and the Associate Dean of the Caskey School of Divinity. It is this climate of political targeting and theological smoke-screening that all of this took place.

books_stockToday begins the Spring semester at Louisiana College’s Caskey School of Divinity. I am thankful to begin my first semester in the Biblical and Theological Studies program. This semester I am taking two courses: Historical Theology: Post-Reformation and Enlightenment Eras and Advanced Doctrines: Doctrine of Christ. I will also be enrolled in a non-credit Evangelism Practicum each semester.

Below are the assigned books for the classes. I look forward to sharing from these sources as the semester progresses.

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Quarles, Vice President for Integration of Faith and Learning at Louisiana College and Dean of the Caskey School of Divinity, has written a clear and helpful article on what Baptists believe regarding divine sovereignty and human responsibility in salvation titled, “What Baptists Believe.” Quarles cites both the New Hampshire Baptist Confession and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 in expounding what Baptists believe.  Continue Reading…

Dr. Chuck Quarles, Dean of the Caskey School of Divinity at Louisiana College, shares his experience in personally learning a higher motivation of gospel proclamation, the exaltation of God.

Dr. Jason Hiles, Christian Studies professor at Louisiana College and the Associate Dean for Biblical and Theological Studies at the Louisiana College Caskey School of Divinity, recently wrote an article for the Louisiana Baptist Convention’s Baptist Message titled, Reflections on Summertime Missions and Salvation.

In the article, Hiles gives a biblical foundation for why we as Christians do missions and how God’s active work in salvation is achieved through the means of those sent to proclaim the glorious gospel of Christ.

Hiles corrects a common misunderstanding of many Christians regarding the “noble savage” and those who would charge God as being unfair if he did not give every rebel a “chance” or opportunity to hear the gospel and repent.  Continue Reading…
