louisiana_collegeThis will be my last post on Louisiana College and the Louisiana Baptist Convention.

I could write pages about what is still going on at Louisiana College and the politics and spin taking place. However, I must move on.

My time at Louisiana College was positive and forever life-changing. I was taught and ministered to by many godly men and women who do not deserve to be associated with the dirty politics and deception currently marking the college and its Board of Trustees.

louisiana_collegeThere is now less than 24 hours left before the Louisiana College Board of Trustees will meet and decide the fate and future of Louisiana Baptists’ only state college.

Below is a list of trustees and their emails. The list is not 100% accurate nor complete. I encourage all Louisiana Baptists to email these men and women and tell them that the president must be dismissed.

The Executive Director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, Dr. David Hankins, was recently called to resign from the Louisiana College Board of Trustees. Pastor Lewis Richerson of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana wrote to The Town Talk calling for Dr. David Hankins to immediately resign.

Citing Hankins’ recent silence, undue influence, and other concerns, Richerson voiced an opinion that seems to be growing among Louisiana pastors and laymen.

This post is for those hurting at Louisiana College. You know who you are. You have had your faith tested because of the actions of evil men who falsely wear the name of Jesus. You have been kept awake at night by anxiety and a million thoughts of what is to come. At times, your anger rises so high that you imagine becoming like those who you hate, believing the lie that the only way to fight evil is with more evil. This post is for you.

President Joe Aguillard has now officially ruined relations with the sole donors of the Louisiana College Caskey School of Divinity. Announced first on Faith On View, the anonymous family funding the Caskey School of Divinity recently penned a letter announcing their withdrawal of financial support:

A little over a week ago, news of Dr. Jarvis Williams’ non-renewal at Campbellsville University hit the blogosphere and became one of the most read stories of the week in Southern Baptist circles. One post by Dr. Collin Garbarino on the issue had over 4,300 Facebook shares and 3,300 tweets. Campbellsville University, a Kentucky Baptist Convention Cooperative Program supported school receiving over $1 million in CP dollars, announced the non-renewal which is reportedly over Dr. Williams’ theology. It is a strange time in Baptist life.

Historically friendly camps within the Southern Baptist sphere that banded together to fight the liberals and moderates in the Conservative Resurgence are now not so friendly. Once case in point is the growing fringe of anti-Calvinist fundamentalists within the Southern Baptist Convention, specifically in the Louisiana Baptist Convention, who seem to have started a new crusade, attempting to narrow Baptist orthodoxy.

Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, the Louisiana College Board of Trustees will meet to decide the future of Louisiana College. They will be receiving and discerning a considerable amount of new information and evidence on various issues. Please pray for the Board and its Chairman Gene Lee.

As one of the last posts I can publish before the Monday meeting, I wanted to shine light on three facts that are still somewhat unknown but need to be widely known.

On March 12, 2013, the Louisiana Baptist Message Editor Kelly Boggs posted an article online titled, “The Situation at LC Unfolds.” The article addresses some of the issues currently afflicting Louisina College.

Unfortunately, Boggs’ article misrepresents and misconstrues facts. Below are several instances in which Boggs fails to report factual information.

While Louisiana College burns, the final week before the Board of Trustee meeting is upon us. Next Monday and Tuesday, the Louisiana College Board of Trustees will meet to discuss and take action regarding the future of Louisiana College and its leadership.

Many Louisiana College alumni, Louisiana Baptists, and others have asked how they can help the school and its students in this time. Here are a few ways you can help:

While Louisiana College burns, another Louisiana pastor is calling for cooperation and unity around the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (BFM2000). Sadly, to my knowledge, only two Louisiana pastors (David Crosby, Jim Law) have publicly spoken to the issues at Louisiana College (LC) since the non-renewals of three professors by Dr. Joe Aguillard and the LC administration. To this day, our Louisiana Baptist Convention Executive Director Dr. David Hankins has not publicly called for cooperation and unity of Calvinists and non-Calvinists since Dr. Joe Aguillard personally condemned Calvinism as something outside of the BFM2000. While Louisiana College burns, our Louisiana Baptist Convention Executive Director David Hankins stands on deck. Louisiana College students and faculty, along with Louisiana Baptists, await a clarion call of cooperation from our state convention leader, Dr. Hankins. In light of the deep respect and profound friendship between Dr. Hankins and Louisiana College President Dr. Joe Aguillard, Dr. Hankins has the influence needed to save Louisiana College from splitting apart over theological diversity.

As pointed out at SBC Heritage, Dr. Hankins has a history of calling for cooperation of Southern Baptists. From the book One Sacred Effort, co-authored with Dr. Chad Brand, Dr. Hankins rightly calls Calvinism a non-essential that should not split Southern Baptists who want to cooperate for the spread of the gospel.

Louisiana College President Dr. Joe Aguillard

Note: I am a graduate of Louisiana College and currently a graduate student at Louisiana College’s Caskey School of Divinity. I love Louisiana College and ask you to join me in praying for God’s perfect will to be done.

Louisiana College (L.C.) is burning. The Baptist college, owned by the Louisiana Baptist Convention, is facing the most important six weeks of its history. From now until March 18 when the L.C. Board of Trustees meet, much will take place that will decide the future of the institution. Will the college continue to have Calvinist professors? Will Dr. Joe Aguillard continue to occupy the president’s office at L.C.? A battle is currently taking place that need not take place. Louisiana College is burning.
