My professor read to us some of Martin Luther’s preface to the first volume of his complete works. Before the Lord saved me, I had heard many times of “faith.” I asked a friend’s parents once, “Why do you believe all of that Jesus stuff?” To which they replied, “We just have faith.” This “faith” they spoke of sounded no different than faith in a car’s airbag being deployed in a crash or faith in a football team’s playoff performance. As I understood, faith in Christ was something that originated in man. However, the Bible teaches that saving faith is of and from God.
