While Louisiana College Burns: Campus Police Chief Dwayne Rogers Inconsistently Makes Demands

Since Dr. Aguillard made his first public statement regarding his position on Calvinism the blogosphere has erupted. There has been overwhelming support for unity and cooperation. Some, however, have publicly defended Dr. Aguillard’s actions. One of the most vocal supporters of Dr. Aguillard in the blogosphere has been Dwayne Rogers. Rogers serves as Chief of Police for Louisiana College. He made comments on various blogs in recent weeks.

In a comment on this blog, Rogers writes:

He goes on to say:

There is a glaring inconsistency that has yet to be mentioned anywhere. As pointed out elsewhere, Dr. Aguillard has charged these professors with propagating Calvinism to the point where it was causing “very oppressive discomfort” for non-Calvinistic students. Dr. Aguillard did not take these charges to the fired professors, as Rogers above was pointing out as the proper course of action. In fact, these professors have not spoken to Dr. Aguillard in many months. The professors received notification of their non-renewals via their school mailbox without one whisper from the administration that they might be in danger of losing their jobs due to causing “oppressive discomfort” in the classroom.

It should also be noted that Joshua Breland and I requested to speak with Dr. Aguillard on February 5th. He ignored our request for a meeting, yet granted one to the Baptist Message and also spoke with the local newspaper, the Town Talk, wherein Aguillard even made coments about me and Joshua.

It is interesting that supporters like Rogers above will demand that those calling Dr. Aguillard’s actions into question adhere to Scripture, yet on the other hand seemingly not require the same of Dr. Aguillard. To this day, Dr. Aguillard has refused to speak with the students or professors he is targeting, all the while his supporters accuse us of abandoning Matthew 18. This should call into question the motive of support for Dr. Aguillard. If his defenders and supporters are standing for truth, then perhaps they should join us and ask the same questions raised by this post.

    • Why has Dr. Aguillard refused to speak to those he is targeting?
    • Why has he denied requests for meetings?
    • Why is Dwayne Rogers the one to file a complaint which begins judicial proceedings against Joshua Breland and Ken Fryer?

Please pray for the Board of Trustees this weekend. Perhaps they will ask these questions and many more on Monday.

I ask Dwayne Rogers, as a brother, why do you not demand the same actions from Dr. Aguillard that you are demanding of students and professors who Aguillard is targeting? If you have demanded the same, then what say Aguillard? Your comments will be posted in full.

We need many prayers to protect those involved, and pray that Biblical church discipline not be used to protect wrong-doers. It’s so hard for me to deal with this incessant, perpetual use of sound doctrine as a means to cause division and create diversions. Clearly, if Rogers insists on this standard, it should be applied to Aguillard. you cannot simply ignore someone’s request to speak to you directly and then speak behind their back and claim the Biblical high-road. I remember back when Southern Baptists expected their leaders to… lead.

Does anyone else think that this Calvinism debate is a rouse to simply distract the media from other, possibly even bigger, issues going on at LC? Simply put there are undereducated faculty, underpaid staff, terrible living conditions for on campus students, and inadequate parking both for commuters and on campus students. Not to mention the acceptance rate of students with well below average high school GPA’s and test scores. How do they represent themselves as an institute of higher learning when they are consistently hiring/firing staff based solely on their religious views, and not taking a look at their qualifications? That is a discussion that I pray does not become overshadowed by all of these Calvinism versus Baptist versus Southern Baptist versus whatever debates. I understand that the students of LC need to be able to be surrounded by Christian professors who can help lead them through these tough adolescent times, but lets face it…. regardless of the denominations of any of the professors left at LC, at this point they have two options; keep their mouth shut and not help the students at all, or dare to even ask for equality and Christ like leadership and be cast out like the rest. The conclusion is that the students don’t have a place to go. That is why we are turning to our Lord and to the media, because at this point, they are the only one’s listening.
