Last week it was announced that Josh Breland and I were under investigation for posting “disparaging comments” against Louisiana College online. Our blogs, SBC Heritage and the Daily Bleat as well as LCStudents.org, were blocked from the Louisiana College network.
On February 19, 2013 as a result from unwarranted pressure from the administration and at risk of remaining in school and facing charges of student handbook violation I withdrew from classes. The consequences of those charges could entail suspension, which would result in failure. I was not willing to risk my academic record by remaining in school at Louisiana College so I withdrew from classes.
Josh Breland, however, remains a student and under investigation. Until further notice I, Drew Wales, will keep those following the situation at Louisiana College informed through this blog.
Today, Dr. Joe Aguillard made a bold move in direct opposition to the wishes of the Board of Trustees. Last year, the Board decided that no action would be taken on part of the college in reference to Calvinism, pending the results of the Frank Page committee on Calvinism. Hitting mailboxes today, however, is the latest issue of Columns, the LC Alumni and Friends magazine.
In this magazine is the now infamous “President’s Pen” article. After the eruption this article caused Dr. Aguillard still decided to send this conflicting, divisive, and poorly articulated position on Calvinism to print for the thousands of LC alumni and donors. This is in direct opposition to the Board of Trustees of Louisiana College and against the wishes of many, many members of the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
This does not bode well for Dr. Aguillard with an upcoming emergency board meeting to discuss recent actions on campus regarding Calvinism and his targeting students for raising serious, legitimate questions of his decisions. Please join me in prayer for those at LC facing punishment for speaking out, and for the members of the Board as they have serious issues to consider in the coming days.
